Some movement is always better than none 🚶‍♀️ 🚶‍♂️ 🚶

A big barrier to starting an exercise routine, or just getting moving, is feeling like we have to do it perfectly, or we have to do a LOT of it. But some movement is always better than none.

Just 10 minutes per day was associated with a decreased risk of all cause mortality of approximately 40% in a study of octogenarians this year. And for those suffering persistent pain, variable movements have sometimes found to be more effective salt reducing pain that specific exercises.

Of course, we’ve known for a long time that as VO2 max increases, all cause mortality decreases, and unless we’re starting from a very deconditioned state, you’ll need a lot more than walking to increase your cardiovascular fitness. But even these easy amounts of movement that don’t quite “count” as conditioning work have been shown to positively impact mortality risk 🌈

So just start, and start small - some movement is always better than none (and as I said a few days ago, small amounts of movement are usually better when attempting to build new habits!).
