Yeah it’s not that Naruto is a pacifist, it’s that he takes a Naruto like approach, just like the Naruto in Jiraiya’s book that his name comes from. Naruto’s decisions are more direct and confrontational whether that be talking or fighting. It seems this situation would have only been solved by fighting so instead of an actual ninja like sneak attack Naruto would have squared up right in front of his opponent.
