Wizard main here.
Tips to prevent analysis paralysis.
1. Know what reactions is accessible and pay attention when not your turn. Your reactions usually are limited to counterspell, shield and silvery barbs. Shield when mobbed, barbs when preventing crits or helping land save/suck spells on an enemy counterspell enemy AOE CC/dmg spells.
2. Know you role:
Are you expected to help focus fire or securing tactical advantage?
3. Know your priority when it's approaching your turn. and plan execution. My thought process leads me to plan in this order: CC, ensuring team has the upper hand re: action economy and finally damage.
4. Know your spells: specifically spelled prepped case the rest of the list is useless when in combat. Separate spells with concentration and spells without. know which is AOE and which is single target

This happened to me the first time I played mtg. It was an EIGHT PLAYER GAME WITH MODERN DECKS run by a bunch of really experienced players... and me. They were just doing the massive game for shits and giggles but it was my introduction to the game. I was paralyzed in a turn for a solid ten minutes as I was trying to figure out how to win with an izzet storm off deck against 7 other plays TwT

How I got over that with my casters and how I try help my players is to get them to put together a "Bread and butter" list they always have prepped, and then leave a few for switching out depending on the situation you think you're likely to walk into. In general, if I have nothing cool or useful to do, I'm probably just firebolting something and repositioning myself. Really depends on the class, though

Pathfinder caster main here. Ive dumped so much gold into learning spells. I love building chars but i have major analysis paralysis bad. It might be tied to my constant regret that I havent had the right answer in the moment. Two things Ive done to help is write down my top picks, and second ive tried to stop being 'the best' situationally, and instead just pick something good and thematic for my char

Best thing you can do for somebody that never played is start at lvl 1 and have combat at every level so they get used to new stuff
