This was me in Architecture. All through HS I was all in. Started college for it, got a job in the field, and was burned out at age 22. I bounced just before I turned 23 and have been in distribution where I can wear a bunch of hats, and realized I just needed a career where it wasn't the same thing for 8 hours a day.

Iā€™m was an accountant. I loved accounting. I loved the work itself. I haaaated the ethics of most of my job. Sure, Fortune 20 company, Iā€™d love to sit and do things that are inaccurate to help you shift financial metrics around. Public was worse. I loved being yelled at by a multi millionaire because I told him I was not willing to write off his Mercedes as ā€˜farm equipmentā€™.

A friend in college realized that about accounting when we hit cost accounting. That really culled the field, admittedly a small school but we went from 50-60 accounting major students to around 20-25 in Intermediate

Thatā€™s why Iā€™m so glad for archiving. My options for school and job are severely limited due to various disabilities. Getting a history degree and going into archiving is common, acceptable, and accessible.

I sure wish I figured that out sooner. Thought I wanted to be a history teacher, but by the time I only had 2 semesters left I realized I didn't have any interest in teaching, I just liked history. Switching majors that late sucked

I had the exact opposite issue. I'm a band teacher. I flipping HATED college. It was a ton of work, so much distraction from a lack of money, and just all around a bad time. But now I'm in the profession, and I feel like I'm thriving. College, the classes, they were a slog (except the ensemble classes. Those were fun.)

Agreed. I really enjoyed the couple legal business classes I took. But me getting dressed up in a suit and tie and running downtown to the court on a regular basis sounds like an absolute nightmare. Plus all the nights and weekends of overtime work sounds like I would have no time for friends or Hobbies.

But, I have absolutely zero idea what lawyers actually do everyday.

That last sentence is one of the greatest pieces of advice for any college student.

This excellent advice. Just because you love something in school/college it is not necessarily something you want to do for a job. Learned the hard way šŸ‘

Very true! I studied accounting and also loved the classes. Then I got a job as a jr accountant and HATED MY LIFE. I washed out after a couple months, changed my major, and am loving life.

I think one of my favorite things about your videos is when you show how you screw up.
That lets us know that not all perfect-looking videos started off perfectly. šŸ’™

Agreed. Got a degree in philosophy, politics, and law and worked as a paralegal during my gap year. Didnā€™t take me long to realize a desk job is a terrible fit for me. Looking into trade school now.

So true. I quit management at UPS to go into Lawn Service for myself. Its about lifestyle too, not just the job itself.
