Testing my new main #sail on my #yacht #singlehanded Sailing single handed on a 40ft yacht.
I picked up a new main sail last year from Hyde sails. I have an in mast furling system. I took the boat out a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40 I own the 3 cabin version which is great. It features the Kevlar energizer hull and we all know I'm not very good. So I have bashed it about a bit and if you follow the channel and watched the "diesel bug" video you will know that have had my Volvo Penta diesel engine cut out and I crashed the boat into a wall.

As I make a mixture of videos an inmast sail is a sail that rolls in and out of the mast. It's designed for single handed sailing so you don't have to go on deck. They have a slight habit of jamming. I found the best method for my boat is to have the boom on the port side. Kicker loose and the wind at around 10 degrees on the nose of the boat so the wind will help shake out the sail. Same when rolling it back in. With the wind curving the sail keeping it flat. Some people prefer heading into the wind and having the sail flap around so it kind of shakes back into the mast. I think you may get creases in the main sail. Let me know which you prefer.
