There is no reason to put nitrogen in any car tires other than race cars going above 150mph.
The reason aircraft use it and why race cars may benefit is because ther is no moisture in nitrogen. Filling with compressed air can introduce small amounts of water and when below freezing such as in an airplane or wintertime in cars, that water can freeze making the tire slightly out of balance. At normal highway speeds, it isn’t a problem.
As for nitrogen not leaking out as fast, that is complete BS! Normal air is ALREADY 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. If his excuse was true, then over time, just filling your tires with air, having the oxygen leak out quicker, and then refilling them over and over would lead to the tires increasing the concentration of nitrogen on their own.
