Very true! Good writing doesn't come from forcing yourself to write. (Or well, I suppose it *can*, but it's neither the most enjoyable or optimal way of going about it. It just makes writing needlessly (more) difficult.) It's important to spend time embracing curiosity and wondering about ideas, letting the thoughts percolate and develop more and more; until you feel that burning desire to connect those ideas and turn them into an outline; and then turn that outline into a first draft, and so on. Fretting over blanks won't fill in the blanks. (Or at least it won't fill them in with anything good.) If nothing comes to mind go out for a walk and let your mind wander; or go read books until you find one you like and absorb the ideas that stand out to you. Beyond that, focus on the task at hand. If you have deeply thought-about things in your head, write them down. Once there's an adequate set of ideas to work with, the two processes (thinking and writing) can become increasingly symbiotic, facilitating greater progress (rate) for both. At least, that's what I think. I've still yet to write a proper complete novel, so skepticism at me saying this wouldn't be unwarranted (although, this is a fairly recent realization for me, so I don't exactly have months, never mind years, of practice at it). Good short!
