When we dream about becoming professional dancers, we first of all think about the fun artistic side of the job, often forgetting about financial logistics. They may be less exciting, but not less important than the show itself. 😉⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

When to be paid? Should I ask the payment before my show, or should I first deliver the performance, and then got paid?🤔🤔🤔⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

Good question! Here are a couple of tips for you👇👇👇⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

1️⃣ Always request a deposit before sending your booking confirmation. ALWAYS. If person isn’t ready to pay a deposit, he/she is not serious about their decision to book you.⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

2️⃣ Balance due is on the day of the show. Before or after the show: it’s YOUR DECISION. ⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

3️⃣ Usually clients will expect to pay the balance due after the show. It’s a mutual trust: they sent you a deposit and trusted that you would show up; you performed and trusted that they would pay the rest. If for any reasons you need to be paid prior to the show, COMMUNICATE it clearly both in the contract and in your email reminder.⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

4️⃣ Advantage of being paid before the show is that you’ll have more leverage in case the show gets delayed. And btw, delay policy has to be clearly described in the contract too... but that’s a separate topic. 😁⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

5️⃣ Always document and confirm all financial transactions via your email correspondence with the clients: how much is the total, how much was already received, what’s remaining balance due.⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

6️⃣ And if you ever encounter suspicious clients, and worry if you’ll get paid at all... my sincere advice: decline those gigs right away, and save your time, energy and nerves. 😘⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀
