This is the progress on the Hall Stand (my project this time π)
Iβve been encountering some βbleed throughβ on this one on certain joins of the timber. This is where your colour gets areas of yellowy pink stains, & no matter how many coats of paint you do, the stain will keep coming back.
This can generally happen with darker timber or knots in the wood, & itβs because of tannins found in wood to protect itself (or tannic acid). Sometimes people can mistake the actual paint turning yellow, instead of it being the piece, & this can put them off using a brand (when it would happen with all brands of water based paints).
So your options when this happens, are to block the stains with a stain blocker, or to choose a darker colour paint instead (which would hide the stains).
I did contemplate changing the colour, but Iβve been inspired by the colours of a dress that Princess Kate once wore, & so Iβm NOT compromising on painting this in white & blue lol
Stain blocking it is!
Iβve been using Purecoβs Base & Blocker, which is a primer & stain blocker in one, & will block most stains & tannins. Itβs water based with no nasty odours & adheres to most surfaces (Iβve been painting this on my bathroom tiles at home). Itβs also an odour blocker too if you find you have a musty smelling piece!
Iβve applied two coasts of stain blocker so far, & have applied it all over the hall stand as it will make the white paint look amazing when it goes on! Weβll keep you updated with the results π
