Or or add another return, is usually how you solve that.

I swear some people get unwarranted hate. You are dintg a great job here. The comments are crazy.

A pound of static pressure? Static pressure is measured in inches of water column. One return is absolutely fine as long as the grille is sized correctly. They need to get rid of that restrictive filter and put in a cheap fiberglass filter and change it every 30 days. People donā€™t need these high merv rating hypoallergenic filters. If you want better filtration use a filter media, an air cleaner or a uv light.

Personally speaking... I would messure the static pressure, then make recommendations... the conversation didn't really come off as "dumbing it down" for the customer but more of trying to BS his way into a sale...

Good video. I always have a hard time trying to explain to customers the importance of having a proper tesp. The majority of the time itā€™s due to a very undersized return. In those cases I use the analogy ā€œimagine if you could only breathe through a straw, your lungs are the blower motor in your furnaceā€

Aprilaire and other brands make an in wall or in ceiling 4 inch filter return grills or add a large media filter at the unit. Iā€™m sure you knew that though.

The filter will slap no matter what if the fan is running. If you put a lighter filter in there it will slap harder.

Use a cheaper fiber filter, and change them every 3 months... Most manufactures do not recommend using pleated filters, they are simply to restrictive.

You can change your filter from 3 months filter to 1 months filter or add another Return

I just changed the filter on mine. Pulling that thing out was like trying to deadlift 300 lbs

Another option is to add an intake grill and filter on the adjacent wall which would cut the restriction in half. In this case the addition would be mostly hidden behind the furniture piece.

Honestly I dont recomend crappy filters. I would do a static test , adjust the fan speeds, record delta T differences.

Don't use that type of filter.its not necessary go out and get your self cheaper typ of filter media

Most newer units can be air balanced or turn the blower fan down. And donā€™t use that style filter

What about a polarized media air cleaner?

If gas flow is laminar, then : Poiseuilleā€™s Law: Q = Ļ€Pr4/8Ī·l (Q=flow rate, P=pressure, r=radius, Ī·= viscosity, l=length. In the videos example you have to increase radius as the man in video was describing or decrease the length gas flow must travel. Those HEPA filters pride too much resistance.

Incorrect, air is the load. Motor works harder the thicker the air. With filter on current will be lower, same voltage. Thus lower power or work required by motor. But motors like to be run full load so optimizing return design or filter permeability will allow you motor to run closer to full load.

Install a lower merv filter and change or clean more often

ā€˜You probably donā€™t want to go that routeā€™ - no explanation of why not. Home-skillet is predetermining on what the homeowner wants.
Pound of pressure? And increase media filter from 1ā€ to 2ā€?
Solid! šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚

I donā€™t understand the relevance of having suction through your intake versus you not wanting to have a good draw for fresh air
