We always get asked - what grit sandpaper do you use??

We start with 40grit on the BIG MACHINE belt sander for the initial rough sanding. Next we will punch and fill all the exposed nails. We then move onto 60grit followed by 80grit. To get a smooth finish we will finish with a combo of 60/80/100 grit using the American Sanders Epoch (however if you don’t have this machine you can finish with 100/120 on the big machine).

All that’s left now is coating with our favourite varnish - Berger Seidle water based polyurethane in a NordicWhite look.

Mint 👌🏻

Thanks for sharing the deafening sander noise. 👍

It's 100% a matter of preference, but I liked the darker/amber varnish a lot more 🤔
Great tips for sanding back those layers of small dents and scratches, though

Sorry but without any stain those floors look like they are made from shipping pallets. Sure the orange wasn’t great but the raw pine isn’t either.

Is it ok to actually prefer a little color to the floors, instead of completely clear?

I know it is out of style, but I liked the honey oak better. It is a lot more warm.

Do you do any floors that aren't depressingly unstained?

Nice approach mate. I'm interested in the epoch - currently using the polivac after 100 on the belt sander and passing twice, once with 80 screen then 100. Do you do most hardwoods and pine floors with that 60/80/100 combo in one pass?
Thanks for sharing 👍

The after look still looks raw and industrial. I'd stain that white or burch if you want to keep the wood color

Have you ever tried a U-Sand or similar? I’m always a bit surprised to see these old drum sanders still in use.

Do you ever use stain or only natural. I really don't like natural color in most circumstances.

Good way to increase ceiling height

Do you don't lift the belt and put it back down when you change direction? That's a good way to ruin a floor.

Is that the sander equivalent of the 1980s washing machine that washes real good and also will never die? Why it work so good??
