He was shot down as a Lt navigator in the Philippines. Broke both his ankles and helped his comrades to safety. Another one of the silent greatest generation. RIP Sir.

Those kind of men didn’t talk much about what they saw and what they did.

Another war hero from the greatest generation who simply served the country he loved and never asked for praise. Rest in peace sir, and thank you for your service!

There was a reason they never spoke of their time in the war, they didn't consider themselves as heros even though in reality they were! That's wonderful to be remembered!

There are so many veteran stories like this where families and families of grandkids had no idea of some of the stories that came out from their grandfather’s past experiences. This is touching on that very level. That’s amazing.❤

I salute another great man. We have to remember most of the stars we know were involved in that war. There are several stars who served & are considered heroes. A short list that im aware of include Lee Marvin, Eddie Albert, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasance, James Garner, Neville Brand, Audie Murphy, & others i just cant recall right now. We must remember that as some said " The real heroes are the ones who didnt make it back". 🙏❤😢

Broke both ankles in the crash, BTW. Johnson flew on 44 missions. I knew he was just creating fake stuff on the show as a kid, but it still led me to research chemsitry, and how things really do work!

My grandad was at Tobruk. We never knew until I got his war record in the late 1990s. Never even knew he'd been overseas!

A lot of veterans didn't talk about being in the military. Daddy very talked about it.
I think talked more to me about it than anybody after I come home from Vietnam than to anyone. My being in a war took a told on his life on his life I could see it when I got back home. Thank God he regained his health after a lot of people was praying for him. Got his health back and took care of Mamma through her illness and death and lived to be almost 99 years old in good health.
God bless our Veterans.

Really loved this show as a kid and still do. I had the chance to meet Dawn wells here in Missouri years ago as a young boy. But I was just too shy, I really regret that I didn't. Beautiful lady , all are missed. Hell yes !! The greatest generation!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺
