Something tells me that the balloon head case had points of failure problems. Considering it could be fit more powder which would be tempting for reloaders, this led to the creation of the more robust modern case design. I think the failure points would likely be incomplete burn of the powder since it could get packed too tight or that some powder would not get ignited by the primer since some would not be inline with the primer hole but beside it, over pressure from a hotter load, case failures near the rim, and even backfiring out of the primer as the "bottom" of the "cup" holding the primer would fold inward on itself and push the primer out causing hot gasses to escape.

With modern powders being more reliable and producing higher pressures make little difference with the few grains that won't make it into the case. Besides the fact that loading .32 acp with higher charges is near pointless as little is gained in foot-pounds or velocity in this feeble chambering.
