The Alfa164 occupies a unique spot in the Milanese marqueā€™s history. While itā€™s the last ever model Alfa Romeo developed as an independent company, it is also the first designed on a platform shared with Fiat. But are you sure you know all about this seminal Alfa Romeo model? Here are three versions that never made production. Full video here: Ā Ā Ā ā€¢Ā 5Ā ThingsĀ YouĀ Didn'tĀ KnowĀ AboutĀ TheĀ Al...Ā Ā

The estate version looks modern even today. Hats down to the master.

Oh... That estate/break is simply lovely. Within the FIAT group, I guess Lancia had that sector covered (large, luxurious, slightly sporty estates), but we can still dream. The 164 break would have made a perfect team car on the Giro for an Italian team running Italian bikes (Colnago) and Italian moving parts (Campagnolo). How very "FIAT" to ruin a nice idea by obsessing over the bottom line.

Can you imagine AR selling the estate?Crazy when the Type4 programme allowed the Saab 9000 and Lancia Thema to make estate cars....The 164 is still a gorgeous car!

The coupe and estate look very nice, shame they never went into production.

I really LOVE to look at those never produced prototypes - even though my heart's bleeding that those beauties never made it to the streets....

The prettiest station wagon ever is a silver pre facelift 156, but the 164 design study didnā€™t look too shabby.

I've never been a fan of the 164, however if the station wagon had been put into production, I'd be buying one
