As a kid running around barefoot every summer, I would inevitably get stung from a bee on the clover that was all over the yard. I got to the point where I would sit down, pull the stinger out if still in and hobble over to the hose to make some mud, slap it on the string and sat around until it dried up. The redness and pain disappeared and I would go back to playing. I’ve used this same remedy after getting bit by a spider while gardening. Worked just as well. Now if bit by something at the park, camping or just out and about , I’ve learned to first look for broad leaf or narrow leaf plantain (not the banana). Make a small poultice and hold it to the bite/sting and wait for the pain to go away in a few minutes. I’ve even helped a stranger in the park who got stung by a bee while walking barefoot with her dog. She was shocked as to how fast it worked. At work, an employee had a red itchy area on her leg. She didn’t know what caused it so I went outside and picked some plantain, rinsed off the leaves, smushed them up and had her rub it on the area. By the time she left at the end of the day, the itching was gone as well as most of the redness. My point is, look to Mother Nature first if you’re in need of a quick fix. You might have saved yourself the pain and swelling. Now you have some additional first aid at your fingertips!
