But what about the author’s voice? What about the snarky comments characters hold back from saying out loud? What about the characters who play such a small role in the actual story that they’re cut out of the adaptation, but the fandom is in love with and you basically can’t go anywhere without seeing? What about imagining the smells and textures in your head? WHAT ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE?

I’m glad that you included the assumption that you only read the book first so that you can act morally superior or something. That comes out any time I’ve talked about this with someone or even just said that the book was better. It made me realize that some people genuinely don’t understand that reading is a fun activity that other people genuinely enjoy. In their minds, reading is just extra work that you have to do to access the story; where as, an adaptation gives the story without the “work” of actually reading it. Fundamentally the whole argument comes down to whether you actually enjoy reading or not.

I started to read Percy Jackson thanks to the movie. I know the Fandom hate it. But it was like an advertisement telling me main points. Maybe I would had not pick the book without the movie.
In the other hand. There's people who don't like to read or read when they already got spoilers. And that's fine too.

The movie/tv shows are never as good as the book! Only once have I ever been “wow thats really close to the book” it was interview with a vampire. They changed Louis losing his brother to his wife: cut Louis and Claudia’s travles and changed Armand from a 16 year old Russian boy to Antonio 😂- but none of that was really integral to the storylin

What if the adaptation is so drastically different that it's basically in name only?
