That has been a staple for all TR machines, I think. Roland really nailed it with the 909 imho. Funfact, the 7x7s use a two-level accent system, with both weaker and stronger accents PLUS the overall accent level. But especially with the analogue machines like the 808 and 909, the accent is integral to get the groove going.

I know how to do accents on it yet still so often forget to add them to patterns
Additional note: in accent mode, the reverb/tune knob controls accent level
Can go from 0 to 255, I think 127 is closest to max accent on 606
