La Tomatina is a festival that has been held on the last Wednesday of August since 1945. Held in Buñol, a small town near Valencia, Spain, participants throw tomatoes at each other purely for entertainment purposes. There are some rules, like tomatoes have to be smashed before throwing, and no other projectiles are allowed.
The fight only lasts for one hour, but during that time around 150,000 over-ripe tomatoes are splattered. Surprisingly, every year 40,000 people participate in the festival and enjoy the food fight in their own way. Many people come from different countries especially to become a participant in the festival.
