I hope we're not over harvesting sponges.Seeing that they clean the water and keep all the other sea life from dying

I prefer vegetable sponges. They grow faster, you don't take away something so important for the ecosystem and the texture is just nice.

So many beautiful comments ! People are more aware & supportive of the environment.
If the sea sponge is keeping the ocean clean ; its utility is best at the ocean. Personally & from other peoples perspective ; keep one artificial sponge. . Let’s be more honest with our home Earth ♥️🙏

Kalimnos hasn't fished for sponges for over 35 years, kalimnians are only middle man now, most sponges come from Tarpon Springs and Vietnam now, there's 2 diving companies in Italy that still "fish" for Aegean Sponges "silk" and "wool" sponges.

The hunt for SpongeBob out here is real. He’s the most elusive cryptid.

Tarpon Springs Fl is infamous for their sponge docks as Greek immigrants continued their culture there. This was also over 80 years ago, and the equipment they used was just a diving helmet and hose… incredibly heavy and dangerous. There’s an old film “16 fathoms deep” that explores this well

Nice to see a traditional European industry and culture alive and thriving.

Sometime I forget that sponges are a living creature and when I am reminded it makes me sad.

i ordered a real sea sponge to bathe with. always used synthetic ones. i actually felt bad once i got it, realizing it was really alive at one time. rarely ever use it, although it is way better than the synthetic ones.
