CPT Martin Appelt, Ottawa Fire Services Rural Division (Canada). We have options. To extend a 200ft attack preconnect we can use the "highrise pack". Depending on the situation, you can extend at the nozzle OR at the truck - whichever is more expedient. In a pinch, I have pulled the 150ft preconnect bumper line and used that to extend the attack preconnect. Options.

Capt JR McKinley, Strathcona Emergency Services, Alberta.
What do you do if.you need to extend a line longer than your preconnect?
Transverse preconnects are modified-minute-man with 60 meters of 45mm.
(200' of 1 3/4) They are built as 2 bundles of 30 meters (100')
Engines have two of these transverse preconnects.
If a preconnect is pulled, charged, and in operation, and we need to extend, then a bundle off the other preconnect can be broken off, carried to the nozzle end, shut the nozzle off, spin off the solid tip, (or combination tip) and thread on 30 meters (100') to extend the line.
The 65mm (2 1/2) is a similar set up..
If the estimated stretch is known to be longer than our preconnect length on our size- up, then we have static 65mm (2 1/2") load from the rear of the truck, with a modified-minute-man bundle of 60 m of 45mm (200' of 1 3/4) on top. Dealers choice on length and diameter upon size up needs.
Engines also have 4 x 15m of 50mm (4 x 50' of 2") of Denver hose packs on each truck.
Crew can extend by spinning off nozzle tip and threading on additional Denver packs or regular 65mm (2 1/2") hose. In Alberta, we have threads that are all compatible for our 65mm (2 1/2") couplings, and all 45mm (1 3/4") threads are NH/NST.
