I remember when Somalia pirates kidnapped the Captain Phillips off a Maersk ship. We didn't charge them for the seal team that resolved that situation.

Perhaps the US government should have the ability to requisition ships, like Britain can.

Start taking the 5 million per ship back.

Perhaps they should ask for escorts from Panama, Liberia, and the Martial Islands. You get what you pay for...

Sal, as you have wonderfully demonstrated, this is a much to complex topic to attempt to describe in a one minute video

Sal this is defending not attacking, it will not work. Going after the leaders that will work.

Maersk wants their ships protected with $2 million missiles carried by $1,000 million destroyers and by an aircraft carrier group that's a hundred billion dollars with aircraft that cost what, $50,000 an hour to fly. I think that's worth $5 million. Maersk and all other shipping companies might also be considering whether they want to carry cargo in any way connected to or from the bad actor countries responsible for creating all this risk.

2000usd projectile against 2million usd missile, long term cost will be high

F MAERSK. Maybe their ships need a few hundred "safety inspections."

If Mersk wants to lose the contract with the U.S. ok. When it hits their bottom line then they will realize how poor that choice was.

The spanish had a ship go with a CBG that turned tail and ran at the first sign of hostilities.

This problem is not the US problem.

This sounds like a contract dispute. My question would be what does the contract say. I would hazard a guess it talks about moving ships through a war zone and what each party agrees to. If the contract is silent on the subject and the parties didn’t have a common understanding of the subject then the shipper is free to withhold services.

5 million is chicken feed for these companies. The US will have to do their own logistics and transport. The Houthi have changed everything.

If Maersk thinks US Navy protection isn't good enough, Maersk can try equip their own Navy. Good luck with that.

The US should have taken care of business months ago.

If US goes full hot war where all shipping is subject to torpedoes, I suppose Maersk will just go bankrupt then?

What is $5 million a year? something per ship? Something in total for the US?
