If she can find an apartment for 600.00 / mo that covers the apartment, water, sewer, electricity, gas, internet/t.v., and renter’s insurance then I say go for it. Of course I would move out too. On the other hand, has she considered the fact that she is a grown woman still living with Mom and Dad? Maybe they want her to move and have decided to incentivize her. lol.

My son and granddaughters live with us,I don't charge my son rent....it's more important to me that he spends his money on my granddaughters. Yes he supplies their food and anything else they need, with how expensive rent is how is a single parent suppose to make it without help from family. And truthfully I love having them here

Ask if she’s having money problems, if that’s the case then suggest you help lower costs in the home, be more mindful of making sure the lights are off when gone or asleep. No leaky taps and cut down on shower length. Keeping in necessary appliances and electronics off when not in use etc. if it’s greed then agree to maybe an extra $20 a week or something but it’s unreasonable to ask u to pay so much more. My mom had me paying rent while I was living with her but she was secretly banking it to give to me when I moved out. This was so awesome when I found out.

Nahhhh, that is just gouging behavior. If the parents want her out then have that conversation like an adult. OP is right for just a few hundred more that is a studio apartment. 600 bucks is a roommate situation. It sounds like OP has the ability but hasn't had a reason until now to move out. I wish them the best NTA.

She sounds entitled. She sounds like the one trying to get over on her mom. Everytime you turn that shower on, wash your hands or use the bathroom, that’s the water bill. You have lights, air conditioning and heat, refrigerator and other appliances you use power for. Let’s not get on the Gas or Sewer bills. Heavenly only knows you are using the internet and cable there. So I don’t think an increase in what you pay to help out is exaggerated. Your mom was doing you a favor at $60 a week. No one was going to let you stay with them for that. Heck, hotels charge $60 a night. If you think you can do all that on your own and still afford a life style, go for it. Once you move, your mom will also have more money because her bills will be lower.

800 a month is a bargain, 600 is almost a free ride. Good luck if OP can find a place to rent for 800-1000 a month. Go for it. He needs to quit looking at it as mommy and daddy and as I found a decent place for a real bargain. OP will miss those extra few hundred a month. He could ask to pay 500? But yeah, not a grateful person. Yes the AH.

My problem is how they apparently went from $240 dollars a month to SUDDENLY demanding $600. If the parents want OP to move out, they should just say. Or if they're having money issues, they should also just say.
