What exactly does "best" mean here wrt insulators? Diamond, ptfe, benzene, polyethylene, and mica all have greater dielectric strength than pure water, and you don't have to worry about conductor ions dissolving into them.

Went from 3 parts to how many plus power supply? Inner water cup, outer water cup, salt(?), tubing, nails, bolts, acrylic piece, L brackets, nuts and bolts, alligator clips, water, and a power supply... Seems like using a capacitor and resistor with those metal balls would be easier. It is a cool experiment, just not a simplified way as the video implies

Do you mean DI as Pure? For anyone who wants a very high voltage DC source, use a high-voltage flyback transformer using PNP transistors to bring the transformer into resonance. You can convert 12V into 200,000V. The gap changes the resonance.
