How much a newborn should eat? It's less than you might think!

In the first weeks, newborns eat frequently as they adjust from being fed by the placenta in the womb. Initially, their tiny stomachs can only hold 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of milk!

Here's how their stomachs grow:

Day 1: 5-7 ml (size of a large marble)
Day 3: 22-27 ml (size of a ping pong ball)
One week: 45-60 ml (size of a large chicken egg)
One month: 80-150 ml (size of a plum)

Always feed your baby "on demand," putting them to the breast anytime they show hunger signs like rooting, licking lips, or sucking on hands.

How often is that? It varies, so consult your pediatrician for what's right for your baby, especially if they're having trouble gaining weight.

Your baby's needs are unique-trust your instincts and seek professional advice as needed.

As Iam watching this. I’m thinking could the problem of colic’s be the large amount of milk some babies drink?

Ok i am an ibclc and have heard this and seen the reaearch BUT i also have seen the reality that many babies fed in our nursery comfortably drink 20-50cc formula on first and consecutive feeds… maybe it is more accurate to say mom produces about 15cc on day one of breastmilk?
