Why do other races/ethnicity not put on afro wigs to "look and feel better/good?" š¤ #mentalstruggleisreal

"my hair is nappy, i don't want to/know how to deal with it. And im not comfortable with the natural inconsistency of 4c hair. So i put on a wig to maintain a 'default' consistent look."
That's what i think the problem is. I know it's hard, but we all have to figure out how to manage our hair.
Get some locs, box braids, a puff ball. Something!
Anything but a wig.

I see it like makeup, an opportunity to change things up without long term commitment. It is sad if she didn't think she was already beautiful, but she knows she is beautiful and is embracing her natural beauty even here in this video. Preaching to the wrong person. Why can't she have fun or explore with different looks and textures if she wants? It is like clothes. I get to choose how I express myself. And so does she or is she not because she is black and now there is a whole other standard to live up to as a black person?? Get out of here with all that judgement.

The irony is that BW with 4C hair have VERY different responses to this issue.
My hair is 4A with a sprinkle of 3Cā¦and I heard the āgood hairā comments from everyone my entire life, especially when it was the longest (down the middle of my back). The African women who braided my hair gushed over how ācurly and softā it is. There is a reason BW are wearing weave & wigs. Letās stop acting like the preference for BWās hair truly is itās natural unrelaxed state. The majority of BW have 4B or 4C hair, as the majority of us arenāt mixed. Try listening to those women & the experiences they had since childhood. You want hair like a Dominican & prefer caramel or lighter women. If DSBW with 4C hair were truly the preference of BM, why arenāt they in the music lyrics and videos, why arenāt the followed the most on social media, why do most BW with 4B & 4C hair have stories from childhood about being bullied for being ānappy headedā? The dishonesty in these comments is so disheartening.

There's nuance here. However, the obvious takeaway is that this young lady has internalized texturism. Black people have been taught that to dislike ourselves. And we see it play out through from how we "enhance" ourselves to our partner selection. The natural hair movement has helped, but we still have miles to go. Praying for our daughters and sons.š
