I'm not super knowledgable, but as my dad taught me:
Revolvers may have fewer rounds, but you can use different mm rounds - so if you need absolute stopping power, go for it, but you'll sometimes want something weaker, so that it doesn't go through your wall and hit your family - so it has flexibility, especially for family that may only consider owning one gun in the house for self defence.
Reliability: While they still need cleaning, you can get away with cleaning recolvers less often. It will almost never jam, compared to a pistol with a clip- however, when it does jam, its a lot harder to fix in the moment.
So, revolvers tend to make better home defence guns- especially if you aren't gun-savvy. (Though training, practice and discipline is always needed, etc.)
I'm sure I misremembered something, but I think that is the general gist.

Actually Mia, The Gun is a very complex piece of work.
For example someone if they prefer a weapon that gets the job done up close one would choose an shotgun over the assault rifle.
I guess the question was asking for which one you would prefer as a pistol rather than the weapon itself. Because it depends on what you think will get the job done in the sidearm/handgun department.
