I agree with you although I learned right away I went with a 6month vocational school. Universal EPA608 is what you want to get. I don’t know about you but I have been referring back to HVACR books it’s been helping me sharpening my skills per say. It’s also been enjoyable reading back those books.

I started in warehouse work. Did that for 7 years before company shut down. I applied and interviewed with hvac company. Landed a job in residential service. I learned enough from previous job that I had enough of a skill set to begin hvac. I am now on my own running calls. I will say this, I can’t think this guy enough for his videos. So much knowledge FOR FREE!

You can learn a lot of skills working on the job. But to get a State contractor license you are required to pass a written test requiring technical knowledge of this industry. Without a contractor license you will always be an employee.

Formal training is needed if you want to know how things actually work and why. Been in the trade for 15 years and there is a big difference between a guy who has formal training and a guy who hasn’t. This is a very bizarre take. You will never know how much you don’t know until you receive some sort of formal training.

Yea bro don’t be giving out dumb bias opinions . Most places won’t hire you unless you have schooling or previous experience in Hvac , to sit there and think you can just walk in and start doing hvac service is crazy . It’s gonna take you years to understand what’s going on in theses systems doing install unless you are very technical and bright . That’s a different story.
