EXPOSING Learned Helplessness: How Coaching Transformed My Client
I had a session today with a client. He's putting together a product for his customers, and he's been consistently delayed, because he's got other things he's doing, and he's been FRUSTRATED by that.
And he shared with me, "Look, this thing, I really want to finish it."
And I asked him, "Are you in a position to finish it?"
And he said, "Yeah."
I said, "So what do you need?"
He said, "I just need to COMMIT to finishing it."
All he did was make the commitment, and now he's on the road to finishing it. He'll get it finished this month.
The whole value of coaching for that session (and that client) was getting this client out of LEARNED HELPLESSNESS.
Just because in the past he wasn't able to finish it doesn't mean that's the situation NOW, and he just needed the reminder (and the commitment) to get back on the horse, and get this thing done, even though he failed to do it in the past.
