You know life's good when your neighborhood throws away unbroken stuff

As someone who works with stained glass, I want to give a little help with the breaking part! Running pliers with a slight curve inside where it bites down work great to getting accurate and fast breaks!!! (You want the curve to arch upwards, and then you center it on where you cut it and slowly apply pressure and just get a feel for how it's going to break. If it feels unsteady or if you notice it straining an an awkward way, it's probably going to try breaking in a bad way)

hey, i do stained glass as my main hobby right now, which involves cutting glass, and i’d like to give some tips! You don’t need to use that cutting oil very often at all, and with big curves like that i highly recommend cutting in chunks to avoid the glass breaking how it did. And great job on tapping on the bottom to help it break! Also i recommend getting some grozers to help break of those smaller bits of jagged glass. Lastly, if you can i recommend doing this outside so you don’t have to worry about tiny bits of glass in your home. Lastly, I cant really tell if you’re wearing safely glass but if not PLEASE DO!! They’re cheap and will save your eyes i promise! It’s always nice to see people trying out now things, and I especially love seeing people trying out anything to do with glass and i love giving as many tips as i can!

Just an FYI - if you have a "glass" shop nearby that does windows and mirrors and stuff, they'll usually cut mirrors for you for fairly cheap if you're looking for a specialty shape

Pro tip when cutting glass always go several times over the cut that way you will ensure a more clean cut and don't forget to wear the appropriate protection, those cuts hurts like hell not just you but your pockets yoo

So brave and cleaver. When I was 27 I fell in a grocery store holding a bottle of wine. I cut my wrist so deep I severed 10 tendons, the ulnar nerve & artery. I'm fine, I've nerve damage, but now at 69 I barley notice it. But, I've been left with a deep fear of broken glass. I don't think, even with gloves, I could ever cut glass. Really pretty wall mirror. Love the colors. FYI, I don't think I would have thought to use pool noodles, very smart.

Tip for next time: lower the arc by a couple cm and try again after having practiced further up to know what your doing. The mirror will only be a tiny bit shorter and be nice and round :)

glass artist here! you always always always want to go with the path of least resistance, so straight as you can go, on the curves, if the curvature is too sharp or bent then you’ll have to score away smaller pieces at a time and narrow out the curve, hope this helps :)

I do stained glass as a hobby and right when you were about to make that first break I internally screamed “wait! No!” 🤣 it’s ok it gets easier the more you practice. I also score more lines along a sharp curve to lessen the blow of the brea
