The live action remake of Disney's Lilo & Stitch doesn't come close to the brilliance of the original animated movie.

To be honest, i’d actually have more respect for Disney if they decided to do remakes of their worst films to try and give them second chances for success. At least you’re working off of something flawed rather than something that was already perfect.

It's not just about it being different from the original movie. It's about the changes they make resulting in a far inferior product.

You can tell that the changes made in this remake were just to keep the budget down - "Oh, we'll cut Gantu so we don't have to animate as many characters, oh but now we need a new antagonist, well, I guess Jumba can be the bad guy, take out all his charming qualities so the audience doesn't sympathize with him, wait, that means we can't do the found family thing at the end, okay then just make the movie not be about family togetherness at all and have Nani's motivation be that she wants to leave for college" - you pull one thread and the whole thing falls apart.

The original Lilo & Stitch worked because it was done under the radar. There was no executive oversight. Not the live action. It was rewritten by committee.

It’s like they forget about the balance between sad/heartwarming and comedy. The move can’t just be funny, it can’t just be all sad, there has to be balance. The first movie was everything at the right moments. Here it’s like they said. ā€œIt’s a comedy right?ā€

Can you imagine Disney making a live action Remake of Home of the Range?

Listen, as a millennial who grew up in the 90s - I hate all these live action films bc the originals are near and dear to my heart and this one (Lilo & Stitch) is no exception. I’ve been lucky enough to show my daughter the original and it’s our favorite. I went to see the live action film just for her bc i would’ve streamed yet another live action remake. Guys, if you love the original, you will love the live action film. I was proven wrong w this one. Me and my girl were in tears - such a sweet film. Didn’t really like Cobra Bubbles in the live action or Jamba but those are very minor things. The message is still there and the actress that plays lilo and stitch steal the show. Go see it and make your mind up for yourself.

I liked it as a movie and not comparing it to the original. It doesn’t compare to the original, and I knew that going in. Instead I treated it on its own and it was a decent movie that had me crying at certain parts

What Disney did with this product is so egregious and against the entire point of the original that I don’t even want to talk about it, so I won’t.

I’ve disowned the studio

I think people need to understand, is that these Live Action are their own thing, of course it’s not going to be a shot for shot retelling of the original. I saw the movie today and to tell you the truth I had fun with it, it’s definitely not better than the original but I honestly liked the direction they took the story.

That's the interesting thing. They could remake so many unsuccessful films and make them something new and successful, there would be audiences that would be down for that. But they're just cashing in on classics.

I liked it so I respectfully disagree with your opinion. My opinion is that it was a great remake and I’ll enjoy watching it again

The kicker was the end SPOILERS Nani ABANDONS Lilo! To go to college. Which makes no sense, because number one, there are colleges in Hawaii. So I don't know why she needed to go to California to go to college and basically put Lilo in foster care. I guess nanny had to have her drink drink on in college seriously, though, I hate using this word because I know people hate it and it's so played out. But the only reason I could think of 4 why you would change the fundamental message of the movie.

It's because I imagine woke executive, somewhere is throwing up into a basket. At the idea of a woman showing maternal instincts, even if it's for a sister taking care of her baby sister, just the idea of a woman wanting to put her career and her life on hold for another human being, it must disgust them to such an extent that they have no choice. They just had to change it. They had to that is the biggest crime of this movie, and in my opinion, makes it the worst remake of all of them, because at least the other remakes. He kept the spirit of what the movie was. We could argue to the degrees of and what they did wrong, and there was plenty of it, but at least a message. Was the same like for beauty And the beast, the message is Beast, needed to learn how to be a kinder person and he did in the remake and in the original. Or what if they just made him still be an a hole at the end of the remake, it would have been like, well, what was the point of all this? That's what they did here. They essentially stepped on the message of the movie. I don't care how Disney spins it. This is the worst we make. Of all time
