Noooooo! Don't throw away the stems! Oil, season them and place on a baking sheet. Roast them along side of your casserole. It is soooo tasty! 😋

Always wash your mushrooms, you're going to cook it anyway so some brief water isn't going to harm it that much. but it gets rid of all that dirt and residue from whatever they were grown on-

You can absolutely wash mushrooms, they absorb a negligible amount of water from running them under water. Kenji tested it and it's not a big deal if you prefer to wash them.

If you want to turn an average crap green bean casserole into a fire dish, add a roll of ground savory sage sausage to your recipe and use french fried onions mixed into and as the topping it turns out so much better.

Love green beans!! As a kid I would eat them straight from the can as an after
school snack. My aunt grew beans in her huge garden and I’d sit in the dirt and eat them straight off the plants until my stomach hurt. Still my favorite veggie, and fresh/blanched has been my go to for years. I love sautéing them with garlic and mushrooms too. That’s a veggie side that goes with everything.

Dude, keep those mushroom stems! Why you wasting them? Just cut off the very end if they're no good and sautee them in butter. Eat em up or save em for an added deliciousness in another dish. ❤

Alton Brown did a good debunking of the "don't wash mushrooms" thing. Bottom line is to go ahead and wash them, the water absorption is almost nothing and the payoff is less dirt on your mushrooms.
