Have to agree, as a newcomer to CW, the enjoyment of my first CW contact was ten fold that of my first SSB contact. Its also a mode where the learning just keeps continuing as you progress from a basic QSO to the ability to have a conversation. I never thought when I first got my M7 and did my morse appreciation that it would be a part of radio that I really enjoy today.

I'm no good at CW but with my KX3 and PX3 and a USB keyboard I can get by. I'd love to sit down and learn it properly but I think it's something you need to be in the right state of mind to take in. I work in IT and 10 years ago someone once referred to me as "the sponge" for my ability so soak up information and learn fast. I don't think that's the case any more. I spent years been thrown in at the deep end and work stress and other environmental factors caused my mental health to suffer. I was put on anti-depressants some years ago and they had a noticeable side effect of impairing my ability to learn and retain what I'd learned. I really would like to be able to decode it in my head and send with a key but that part of my brain can only cope with so much these days. For now I'm just enjoying CW contests with the radio doing most of the work for me. It's not that I don't want to learn but I have to rely what metal capacity I still have in that department to earn a crust. Maybe when I retire I'll give it another shot. I might need that experience to keep my grey matter ticking over when I'm not constantly trying to keep up with the latest IT buzz words

Richard, I am getting back into CW after a 32 year lapse and a 67 year old brain matter. I practice with 20wpm head reading words to get the sound and trying for instant recognition but if I send it is around 15wpm. You are a very good operator, Question how long did it take for you to get instant recognition? 73 Phil G0BVD

100% agree. It just takes the determination to learn. This comes from practice and persistence. Well worthwhile.
