Our gm had a very set idea he wanted to go with. Which, we as the players became over powered quickly and started to derail itâŠwithout even looking at the gm, I swung at one of the other op people in the party and just started to go onto a massacre. Once it was all said and done, my character and the other newish super underleveled characters was the only ones to remainâŠso I just left them be and my character went on to be a âmythâ until a few play throughâs later, they reappeared and (he still had my original sheet) was a lot stronger due to 600+ years of being a soul in the armor and gaining the favors of demons and angels.

Iâm in the opposite boat. The DM absolutely loves my character. But Iâm getting the sense one or two of the players are getting annoyed at him (Iâm playing a lawful good Paladin and I play into some of the comedic aspects of being very lawful). My character worked splendidly with our trio of players from the start of the campaign. But one person left and several more joined, changing the dynamic. I asked the group at the beginning of a recent session if it would work better if my character left or was killed off so I could make one that better fits with the current group. But most of the group was like âno, we can figure things out.â And the one person who I think is most annoyed said âso your character canât just mature and have some character development?â Well, thatâs not really possible with how I set up my oath. My characterâs father was slain by demons, and he took an oath to kill all evil creatures. And nothing narratively has happened to cause my paladin to break his oath and let the party be murder hobos who burn down a tower to steal a dark book to give it to some evil witches for a favor. I donât think this is a matter of maturing. Rather, I should probably play a more neutral aligned character.

I can DM but I am a MUCH better player. I was kind of hard on one of the players making a character that not only ate male humans but had the ability to charm them. This was not in D&D but in GURPS (a much better and more flexible game system, but not as well balanced). She was also a VERY rare creature that would draw a lot of attention... and was aquatic so had to spend an hour in water every day. I pointed out that the rest of the party was essentially good people and might not like her character and that she was likely to cause a lot of problems for the party too. She made another character.

If the GM is receptive... good! But not all are.
My current GM asked for "honest feedback" and I told him that his combat was lame and same-y and always devolved into a simple back-and-forth exchange of attack rolls. No dynamics, no tactics, no fun, just a boring slog fest. He IMMEDIATELY went into defensive mode and was like "oh THAT is interesting, because two of the OTHER players told me they LIKE it, so I find it VERY unfair of you to tell me that YOU don't!" The two players in question were noobies. This was their first campaign. He is their first GM. They don't know anything else. And using them as a justification to whine because I didn't shower him with praise (I did compliment his worldbuilding and his NPC play on NUMEROUS occasions mind you) was just cheap.
I'm currently contemplating dropping out of the group. Wouldn't be the first player he loses either.

For context: Many problems group face is because of mismanaged expectations of each other. Sometimes its the players, sometimes its the DM. Most important aspect of any group is to just talk about problems when they arise and see what can be done as a group. In this case I was playing a paladin in a primarily undead campaign and trivialized most encounters, so it made sense to reroll to something not quite so perfectly suited to all encounters.
