Oh my god the vacuum lines... I had nightmares for weeks after chasing vacuum leaks on a turbo 300ZX

i remember driving a low km 300sx in NA form, that engine was the smoothest power delivery i had ever felt back then

That used to be the most advanced engine in the 90s. These well taken care of can go along way.

Add to it the compact bay makes the wiring and vaccum lines more brittle due to heat. So add that massive headache for vaccum lines and wiring gremlins. Last but not least, fuel injectors

Sweet merciful Buddha the fuel injectors.

Nah, it's an amazing engine. Capable of 400whp+ on stock turbos just with injectors and bolt ons. 600whp+ with big turbo still on stock motor, stock heads, stock fuel pump.

There is a lot of clutter because it was overengineered but once you get rid of it all, they're easy to work on. A plenum pull is a 15min job.

300zx have lots of old school tech on them but you do them properly, you have a rwd car under 3,000lbs that can fit 18x11 with 315 size tires on the stock body, with over 600whp+. Very potent platform that is simply underated.

I have a vg33 in my pathfinder, makes 150hp and this thing is a tank. Doesnt even mind rev limit at 6k just tows anything. It even started right up after i drove into a massive mud hole and fill it with water

Also the location of the turbos being back behind the strut towers. I helped a friend with upgrading his and it was a pain. Also his rear main seal was replaced 3-4 times in the 3 years he owned the car.

Well lets be honest its the chassis is a pain in the ass to work on not the motor itself.

Talking smack on my favorite engine family ๐Ÿ˜ข its true though lol the twin turbo engine set up is massive. Has anyone heard one of these things cammed and super charged though? Good lord. Snappy asf too not mention a Rb26 is how much?? Pretty confident you could buy 6 Vg30s for the price of one. So budget build wise its a decent option. I say through k20s into everything myself though

I still have a few of them in my storage. Gave up after I couldn't fit my hands in those fender wells and strut towers

As i daily a z32, i feel qualified to say theyre really not as bad to work on as people say. That said, im still binning the vg30 off asap for a v8

You gonna need to pull any motor now from any 90's JDM car. Let's face it most of us are not rich and are going to try to find the best deal based on our budget. Even if you get a R32 from Japan, then you'll want to pull the engine anyway to make sure everything is good. Plus the Nissan Gloria had the VG30DET. Compared to most engines now. The VG is pretty simple.

It was a good engine but it's heavy and has a wiring harness from the space shuttle and endless vacuum lines there's a reason many a 300zx wound up with a LS
