Most custody agreements have the mother having the kids on mothers day and the moms birthday and dad having them on fathers days and the fathers birthday. He should have told the mom he was picking her up from school but yes mom was wrong. Mom needs to be happy that her daughter has a dad that wants to spend time with her. And the daughter is never going to forget what the mom did. Just my opinion! Anyway

This sounds like mom was punishing her 15 year old for her dad. Like you divorced him, don't use your kids as bargaining chips. Just because it is your day doesn't mean she is your property... she wanted to go to the birthday dinner for what is her dad. Not your ex. During my grandmothers funeral my cousin who was raised by grandma and grandpa most days, was supposed to be in her moms custody. Her mom just wanted her at her place because "its my day so you cant have her because grandma died. My cousin and i found a loophole. She asked if she could spend the weekend with me (her cousins house) She said yes just not your dad. Problem solved. She got to go to her grandma/legal gaurdians funeral and she actually was able to play her flute and say goodbye the way she wanted. We cried a lot that weekend. Valentines Day still sucks for me.

The mom and dad are both wrong here. The mom has a right to be upset that her daughter was taken from school without her knowledge. The dad is wrong for just taking his child from school and bonus turning off his phone because he probably knew his ex would be mad. The mom is in the wrong for being petty. Just give him the day and be done. If my ex pulled that he would be totally responsible for our child getting home safe and sound. Btw the daughter was totally wrong for not informing her mom about her leaving school and going off with her dad.

Wrong on both sides imo. First off, the daughter (if I remember correctly) is 15ā¦in my opinion, and legally I believe, thatās old enough to decide where she wants to go (parents wise). The mom was kinda out of bounds for not letting her daughter attend the birthday party, like ofc it was her day, but I feel like itās a special occasion and doesnāt have to be so strict. But the father shouldnāt have picked the daughter up from school.
Now, say if the father had maybe substance abuse issues or didnāt hang around good people and the mother was scared of this, then thatās one thing, but none of that was mentioned so I donāt think it was the case.

As a parent with shared custody of a teenager, birthdays are an exception, especially if the kid wants to go. I can guarantee OP would lose it if her ex did this to her.
