Yeah, whilst I concur that Lasseter's unfortunate yet understandable firing from Pixar and Disney Animation was a massive blow to both studios. The biggest factor for Pixar's recent inconsistency in my opinion is the lack of genuine heart and soul.
Every Pixar film from Toy Story to Coco (even Cars 2) had heart and soul from start to finish, Pixar's consistency in creating incredibly heartfelt films that told fantastic at best and solid at worst stories with incredible characters was absolutely mind blowing, and whilst Pixar have delivered some excellent heartfelt films post-Coco (e.g. Soul, Onward and Inside Out 2), most of the films since Coco have been deprived of the famous Pixar heart and soul which as a result has made a lot of their recent films mediocre at best, and disappointing at worst.
Hopefully Inside Out 2 will usher in a new era of fantastic Pixar films that have genuine heart and soul from start to finish.
