That Japanese base, by the way, is very small (only 600 personnel) but was the very first overseas base Japan established since WWII. That should tell you, in part, how strategically essential that strait is to the planet.

I deployed to Djibouti, the russians ad south koreans technically have a presence there too. Kinda weird all of us being crammed in the same place. Nobody really screws with each other though

I personally sailed down the Red Sea. The underwater ecosystem is BY FAR the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in the natural world, and I’ve seen almost everything. No bigger tragedy than seeing this magical place exploited for economic and political gain. The land might be (is) a barren desert, but beneath three waves it’s as beautiful as any natural area on earth.
