I've had a lot of issues making my own paint marker colors lately. The Golden high-flow paints are way too runny and transparent for the paint markers on their own, and don't create that solid even coating like store-bought markers do. The high-flow paints are also unfortunately VERY glossy, and most industry paint markers are completely matte. I tried adding matte medium to thicken the paint and reduce the shine, but wasn't able to get a completely matte finish and still had issues with the consistency. I then tried mixing the Golden fluid acrylics with flow-aid, and had similar issues with getting the right viscosity and too glossy of a finish. Then I tried the Golden SoFlat paints, also with both flow-aid AND Golden High Flow medium. That took care of the glossy problem but am still having issues getting the right consistency. Once I finally get the paint thin enough to flow well, its too transparent and has lost its pigment and doesn't produce that matte even coating like paint markers usually do.

If you get the 10 color sets, Golden High Flow & Fluid acrylics are the same exact price for the same amount of paint of main colors. And airbrush medium is $1 per ounce, while the high flow colors are 4.50 per ounce in the 10 pack/ 1 ounce set. So diluting 3 parts fluid acrylic paint:1 part medium, if you do not need the full strength pigment is way less $$$. However, if you use a massive amount of a color such as black, you can get 1 gallon (128 ounces) for $131, which is almost only $1 per ounce. Too bad the prices are sky high out of this world if we aren't buying a gallon. Art supply prices are $$$$$$$$$$.
