Kashmiri here. Part time house help is not available. Full time domestic servants are rare and rather expensive when compared to average earnings. So most of us actually do our own work . Houses are relatively big and we do it all -cooking, dishes , cleaning, laundry and the lawn/ yard etc ..

I laughed looking at this but then I realised its actually a serious thing. There are many cases where NRI married Indian girl took them abroad with them and then locked them in house to work as maid. As maid cost in US is very high so basically it is kind of forceful slavery and very serious.

True that everyone should do their own work themselves and not treat anyone like a servant. But I can't find a person who would mind if someone else does his or her laundry/dishes. Who doesn't want comfort?

Cooking (breakfast, dinner & lunch + snacks) then washing the dishes, cleaning: including toilets (hoover, brush, mop), laundry (washing, drying, folding and putting away including bedsheets and sofa covers not just clothes), gardening, cleaning your own car, putting petrol or gas in your car, packing your own take away container of leftover food at restaurants. It’s never ending. The relatives at home wonder why their loved ones don’t have time for them or don’t call or go back to visit. We can’t afford it, neither the time nor the finances. When we are not working for money we are doing the jobs of several house help people at home.
