I never put mine away without a thorough cleaning with an air hose, all around the pulleys, all around the engine, blow out the screen over the flywheel, look for any sticks or debris under the pulleys, do a frequent check for any loose or missing bolts, rarely ever wash my mower, and store it in an enclosed garage, check to see if oil level is full before every mowing, and do a regular check for worn belts, and keep a spare drive and deck belt on hand, and a spare set of blades. 18 years with the same zero turn, and still going strong. I change oil and filter every 50 hours, and clean air filter regularly.

The cut grass as it decomposes is very acidic. Which eats metal and paint very quickly.

Safety Tip: Wear a Pocket Protector. A leaking pen can cause shirt pocket damage! And there's your nachos!

I thought that is why they use plastic mowers, so they can't be destroyed by grass.

I do that Taryl every time! I have to do pressure washing under the deck that still builds up with grass.
