Getting Some Gastric Juices Flowing 🌊

Disorders of stomach secretion were revolutionized at the discovery of proton pump inhibitor therapy. For example, treatment of peptic ulcer disease before 1989 sometimes would be surgery. On a less severe scale, heartburn sometimes happen spontaneously, but is there something we could just change without any other intervention if it appears often? Maybe. PPI's profoundly increase stomach acid levels, so evidence for limiting proton pump activity as a way to control stomach acid is plausible, but we likely cannot and should not completely eliminate dietary potassium intake. However limiting it for a time may be help.

When he listed all the potassium rich foods, I realized he listed my entire diet.

I ate a whole bag of pumpkin seeds the other night and, yes, very acidic

As someone who is all too familiar with that miserable feeling, I love the explanation in this video! I've actually had 2 surgeries to repair my damaged sphincter. First a nissen fundoplication and when that failed they installed a Linx. It's a band of magnetics around my esophagus that are forced open when I swallow something but then pull back together once it's gone through!

I was always told from nature docs that vultures have significantly more acidic stomachs allowing them to safely eat rotting meat containing botulinum toxin, anthrax etc. I don't think humans can do that without winding up on a ChubbyEmu vid...

I have chronic acid reflux, what is the worst by far is: orange juice. but also alcohol and nicotine cause increased heart burn due to the relaxation of the muscle. "maaloxan" is what helps me short term, the proton-inhibitors just cause my stomach to get used to it and producing the same amount of acid after a while and when I stop taking proton inhibitors my stomach produces too much acid for a longer period of time

I reflexively said “GERD” out loud and immediately looked up to make sure no one in the room noticed XD

I love when a short end and beginning are seemless with time and applicability. Satisfying. It's like a perfectly matched sample and bpm

That first line is interesting to me. I've been reading a book series from the perspective of dragons, and the humans in the world are literally called scavengers by the dragons.

Thank you for this excellent, direct explanation of how PPIs work w/examples of foods that increase stomach acid. My tummy’s happier already! 🤗

Woah... this might have actually helped me understand why I've been dealing with acid reflux more lately!

As someone that went through GERD symptoms (as bad as when the acid rises up as far as at the back of the throat), the remedy that worked for me is wild bee honey.

A tablespoon a day helps improve not only the GERD symptoms, but also helped with constipation.

I read that mint relaxes that muscle, so I stopped using any kind of mint for any reason, and, voila; no more gerd. Amazing.
