Welcome back to my "15min Mom" channel.
As a scientist, I can explain the importance of protein consumption to the human body from a physiological and nutritional perspective @15min_mom
.
Many sources & research suggest the guidelines are the bare minimal requirements therefore we need more protein to make it optimal. Scroll down to see what I consume daily.
.
Proteins are one of the three major macronutrients, alongside carbohydrates and fats, & they play a crucial role in maintaining the health & proper functioning of the human body.
.
Proteins are composed of amino acids, which are often referred to as the “building blocks of life.” Here are several key reasons why protein consumption is vital for human health:
.
1- Tissue growth & repair - including repair of damaged muscles, skin, hair, & internal organs
2- Enzyme function - these are involved in various metabolic processes, digestion, & energy production
3- Hormone production - several hormones are made from amino acids
4- Immune system function - Antibodies, which are crucial components of the immune system, are proteins
5- Transport of nutrients - Proteins facilitate the transport of various substances, including oxygen, in the bloodstream
6- Structural Support - Proteins are responsible for providing structural support in the form of collagen for skin, tendons, & cartilage, as well as keratin for hair and nails
.
While complete proteins are often associated with animal-based foods, you can also combine various plant-based protein sources to create complete protein meals. For example, combining beans & rice or lentils & whole grains can provide all the essential amino acids your body needs. This can make plant-based diets nutritionally balanced & protein-rich as well.
.
I consume circa 70-100g of protein a day, weigh 58kg and train 4-5 days a week.
.
Protein is essential!!! So eat well and feel amazing!
