Blue zones are regions in the world where people live longer, happier and healthier lives than average. One thing that people in blue zones had in common is eating lots of plants - veggies and fruits are a big part of their diet.

This makes sense to me as there are many studies show that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can:
🧑‍⚕️ Lower blood pressure
🧑‍⚕️ Reduce risk of heart disease and stroke
🧑‍⚕️Reduce risk some types of cancers
🧑‍⚕️Improve blood sugars

In 2019, the Canada Food Guide changed. Instead of specific servings, the plate shows half the plate is filled with vegetables and fruit, ¼ plate from whole grain foods, and ¼ plate from protein foods. The recommendation of #halfyourplate containing fruits and vegetables is something our family practices daily and is a great way for us to remember to get enough plants in our diet!
