As a Phillies fan, I remember him as the guy the Phillies signed sort of by accident. After he was pretty solid (ERA+ of 113 over 189 innings) in 2016 for the first time in 4 years, the Phillies gave him a qualifying offer to get draft compensation when he left. Of course, Hellickson signed it knowing he was already a risky signing that provided limited reward, and he wasn't going to get a good deal if the team that signed him needed to give up picks. I get trying to get what you can for a guy that's leaving and being willing to keep them if need be, but even at the time I was thinking 'really? you thought teams were gonna give a pick to get this guy?'.
