I understand his sentiment, though not for the reasons he gave here.
I personally have a dream of creating a visual story. The reason I would never hire artists to help me is two fold.
1- I have a specific vision I don't think another person could capture exactly as it is in my mind.
and
2- There is a great deal of power in feeling and seeing the world as it is created from one specific person's point of view. This vision is powerful. You can see the depth in the state of one's mind through every brush stroke or line that someone uses to craft their story. There is meaning there, and that meaning cannot be transferred from one artist to another, but it can be transferred from an artist to art appreciator. I look at artists like Van go, who, had such unique brush work, and many believe it was because of his disturbed state of mind, that he created such a unique vision of the world with his circular turbulent movements. I find that powerful and meaningful. And I want to capture my own soul in my work in a similar way. If people find it beautiful and meaningful, especially because I placed messages there, than, they would have truly seen me and saw my most inner self as beautiful as well. This is something I unyielding desire, and would not have another human being write or draw for me, therefore circumventing my soul in the process.
I love Mangaka's works because often you can see them, as people, through their art and stories in a way you could never see them...just by talking to them.
I think if this is even close to the sentiment he feels, than I 100% respect it, and understand it. This is his soul, no one else's. Be it ugly or beautiful its his. He'd rather this story not exist, than for someone else to be telling it.
Full respect for that.
