This scene was originally done with practical effects and looked better, however the producers stepped in and demanded it be redone in CGI.

Ultimate Question: Would you rather be assimilated with The Thing or be dissolved by The Blob?

Even with the flaws of this movie I will say - THE AUDIO DESIGN OF THE THINGS SCREAMS ARE HAUNTING. It sounds like someone layered backwards screaming, inhaling, and monotone shouting all together and it sounds just human enough to feel real but just wrong enough to be alien.

If this movie did anything, it helped all of us with a little more lore. Love the original. It's perfection imo

This was a good prequel no matter what's said. At least we get a good story on the previous crew and what happened.

It's just the thought of having consciousness and being terrified and then all of a sudden your thoughts are gone and combined into this creature, super traumatizing to me

I like how this explains what the next crew found. Even though there were many reasons why this failed... Cough: too much CGI, rushed writing, rushed editing, it's a lesson to Hollywood

The narrative of this film - the prequel here - came the closest in what I wanted to see. They wanted to give us a sense of the absolute shock and the terror enveloping these people upon realizing that this astounding find - some being from another world - is not only alive, but that it intends to kill them. And the implacable nature of this thing that they are up against makes the film more intense as they realize how completely out of their depth that they are with this monster from another world, and something which they themselves had inadvertently unleashed on themselves - and on the world.
