Oxygen sensors DO NOT cause that soot he's finding in the exhaust pipe. Neither do they cause an enigne to shake like that. COMPLETLEY WRONG! that vehicle is burning oil, that's why the tailpipe is black.

It's called process of elimination oxygen sensor check and clean, and if the engine still shaking then pull the plugs and replace them if it still shakes replace the plug wires. That's normally the problem in the first place but if you know what to do you'll save yourself at least $2600.00 dollars for labor charges It's better to know than run to a repair shop to give away your money for something easy to do.

2 weeks ago this car had problem with engine shaking and he solved the problem with changing spark plug, because oxygen sensor was changed by new in garage and no sucses. Now he just cleaned sensor and all is OK. Interesting car.

Black excessive carbon is usually caused by the engine running too rich, and can be caused by a faulty o2 sensor and usually sets a trouble code,and can cause the catalytic converter to malfunction setting a different code, there other causes including stuck or wore out fuel injection!
