I had a player do exactly this in one of my combats once... It went well. One creature was essentially removed from combat and hurt for a few rounds. One of the enemies had Disintegrate though, so it wasn't quite so one sided as it could've been. (Wall of Force is weak to Disintegrate.) It did mean that the enemy used Disintegrate on the Wall of Force though instead of on a PC, and the Hound was still able to effectively harass the enemy without the Wall.

This is a good idea but note that the wall of force only lasts for 10 minutes. However since each player's turn is 6 seconds it's going to last a long time in combat. Just be careful of teleportation and burrowing enemies because they can get out of the dome.

At the beginning of the campaign, the wizard takes a level in houndsman from the local castle Lord.
Everyone in the party laughs at him.
Later after the wizard levels up, he uses faithful hound. Gives it the boosts from the houndsman class Which doubles the attack of any dog. Spectral or otherwise.

I love this one. Our previous journey in our group my cleric had to drag our group on a journey to save his deity from a power hungry previous member of the same faith. Upon finding his hideout I managed to get my hand on an enchanted orb that allowed me to use 5 spells from the entire game but it would never recharge so I only ended up using it once. On this spell. Upon successfully saving the deity my character was granted a boon for unwavering faith and determination in the form of making my newfound pet permanent. My DM and I worked out a stat block for it and everything and it became something i could use my bonus action on during combat.
