The truth about power depends very much on your ability to get that power down on the tarmac.

If you lose traction then you are wasting your money adding more power. If you still have traction then keep on piling on the horsepower and see where it takes you.

A front wheel drive car will typically struggle around 200 to 250hp and much beyond this is pretty much unusable.

A rear wheel drive car is able to extract much more power, but if the tires are not gripping properly or the differential is pushing the power to one side you will still get serious traction issues.
