Today we are contemplating why something is cringe. Think about it like a horseshoe, on one end is cringe and on the other is awe inspiring. Sometimes they even overlap in a perfect circle. Sometimes it's hard to say which end is which. If you're a musician, putting yourself out there like this, it can be scary. But what makes something cringe?

Everyone is different & the cringe hits us all differently. I try not to judge because the stuff that makes me cringe the hardest is my own stuff. I've been fighting with myself to even put anything out there. Sometimes people suck & I know I wouldn't handle being torn apart by strangers online. It's stupid & shouldn't matter but, to ke, it does. It's almost admirable that anyone can put themselves out there like that so props to them all ✌️

A lot of perception of cringe is social conditioning, people are primed to see something as cringe. But, as an artist, if you're not doing something cringy you're probably not doing much.

I live in an area of the south where heavily curled cap brims are the norm and I flatten mine because I grew up on the west coast. These are the kind of tiny social details to which people are attentive.

I fucking hate how easy it comes for people to hate. It sounds so damn cliché and overdone, but it really is amazing how many that never stop and feel.

It's "cringe" because he is completely out there and vulnerable, while medium build is and act with so many more safety nets.
And people suck

the framing is hugely important with a such a small sliver and i think that speaks volumes to people when it's video, the first one sounded good too, but also, A) felt accusatory while B) felt wistful, i'd still listen to both

The thing is people are always looking for approval from other people before they "get on board" with an artist. It's sad but true. It takes the right people pushing an artist to get the majority to like them.. I personally didn't enjoy either one of them. But that isn't me saying that they aren't good. Just to me they seem to be trying too hard to sound like what people like these days.

I think it's partially that he stops playing the guitar as if to imply that what he's saying is so profound that the musical accompaniment takes away from the message.

Stylistically, I don’t dig the first kid. His constant vocal vibrato kills me. But he ain’t cringe, just not for me. He gets a 10 outta 10 in the (at least seemingly) being passionate about the music he’s making category, so good on him especially in this current landscape of it being trendy to act like you couldn’t give a shit.
